Rupert Guinness's Boat 1894This boat belonged to Rupert Guinness of the well-known Guinness family. He used the boat to win the Diamond Sculls in the 1896 Henley Royal Regatta. The boat is a single sculling boat. Sculling boats are racing boats manoeuvred by one person using a pair of sculls, or oars. Design: This wooden boat has an internal keel, outriggers and a sliding seat. It is 6.6 metres long, which makes it 1.5 metres longer than most of today's sculling boats. (Have a look at the real thing. This boat is on display in the museum's Rowing Gallery.) | ![]() |
