ΜΑΤΑΙΩΘΗΚΕ Η SilverSkiff International Endurance Regatta

WHY THE 2011 EDITION OF THE SILVERSKIFF HAS BEEN CANCELED?

The recent heavy rains that have affected Northern Italy have caused major damage in Genoa, where as many as 6 people died due to water floods . As many as 400mm of rain have fallen in 5 hours in some areas. While the heavy rains were expected, the damage far exceeded the forecasts. Because of this relatively unpredictable scenario, the Police Chief of the City of Turin has taken the position that it would have been unwise to hold a regatta under these circumstances, and issued an executive order to cancel the event. We truly regret this situation, which marks the first time ever that the Silverskiff is canceled in its 20 years history. We thank all the athletes (especially those that come from far apart) for their understanding, it was our intention to offer them an outstanding rowing experience. Despite this unfortunate and unforeseen situation, we warmly invite you to come to the 2012 Silverskiff, and hope to see you soon (arrivederci!) again in Turin.
