Το Δ.Σ. της ΕΚΟΦΝΣ στη τελευταία συνεδρίασή του ασχολήθηκε με την περίπτωση του αθλητή Γιάννη Τσάμη που βρέθηκε θετικός σε έλεγχο από το Ε.Σ.Κ.Α.Ν., στην απαγορευμένη ουσία Finasteride. Αποφάσισε και του επέβαλλε ποινή αποκλεισμού έξι (6) μηνών από κάθε αθλητική δραστηριότητα, σύμφωνα με τον Κανονισμό Ντόπινγκ της ΕΚΟΦΝΣ, σε συνδυασμό με το άρθρο 10.3 της W.A.D.A.. Η ποινή λήγει την 21/10/08 |

Ο ΝΟ Ιωαννίνων αναδείχθηκε για μια ακόμη χρονιά πολυνίκης και πρωταθλητής σύλλογός . Κατά την Β΄ φάση του 74ου Πανελληνίου πρωταθλήματος που ολοκληρώθηκε σήμερα στην Παμβώτιδα λίμνη ο ΝΟΙ αναδείχθηκε νικητής και στις κατηγορίες παίδων κορασίδων και ΑΜΕΑ. Lightweight Men’s Single Sculls (LM1x)
Reigning World Champion Duncan Grant of New Zealand and Jaap Schouten of the Netherlands have been going head to head all season. At each of the Rowing World Cups, at each of their meetings, Schouten has gotten the better of Grant and won. Grant gave it his best shot two days ago to beat Schouten in the semifinal, but he was unable to. Today, after a false start, Grant jumped out into the lead followed by Olympic medallist Lorenzo Bertini of Italy with Schouten back in fifth.
Going through the middle of the race, Grant, Bertini and Shadi Naghadeh of Iran were all in medal spots with a gap back to Schouten, now in fourth. Then going through the third 500, around the 1200m mark, Schouten began to move. Schouten overtook Iran, then Italy and went after Grant. Grant was waiting for him. The sprint to the line was on with Greece’s Ilias Pappas joining in. With every stroke Schouten gained on Grant. Grant held on. At the line Grant had defended his title, just. Schouten takes silver and a massive sprint by Pappas gives him bronze with a shattered Bertini stopping just before the line.

Lightweight Men’s Pair (LM2-)
In the semifinals Greece’s Nikolaos and Apostolos Gkountoulas managed to beat the reigning World Champions, Andrea Caianiello and Armando Dell’Aquila of Italy. Could they do it where it counted, in the Final? The Gkountoulas brothers got out to a massive start forcing Caianiello and Dell’Aquila to take up chase. Serbia followed in third. Going through the middle of the race the Gkountoulas’s continued to hold the edge over Italy. The Greek pair have been competing together internationally in various boats since 2001, and this year at the Poznan Rowing World Cup, they took gold.
Today the Gkountoulas brothers earned their first senior World Championship title by staying ahead of Italy right to the line. The Italians take second and Serbia’s Goran Nedeljkovic and Milos Tomic hold on for third.

The 2010 Rowing World Championships at Lake Karapiro in New Zealand have been moved from the proposed September date and will now run from October 29th - November 7th 2010.
The change – requested by Karapiro World Championship organisers – was agreed by the world governing body of the sport FISA at its annual World Congress yesterday in Linz, Austria where the World Junior and Senior Rowing Championships are taking place. Securing the date change is a relief for the organisers, who had feared poor weather conditions in September when the world rowing championships are traditionally run. The later date is a departure for the sport, but was not contested by any of the national federations.
“The only point of deliberation in Austria surrounded a negligible and possible wind increase of one meter per second but taking this risk meant there was the likelihood of much better and warmer weather, and it was a change we were pushing hard for,” explained Karapiro 2010 Chief Executive Officer Tom Mayo.
“In addition to having warmer weather and likely better facilities as a result, there are also no major clashing sporting events now in the shape of rugby or the Commonwealth Games.
“In short, although radical by international rowing standards, the new date is an acknowledgement by FISA that Southern Hemisphere events require a different perspective and an improved opportunity for us to deliver a truly world class event.”
There has been huge interest in the New Zealand event both domestically and internationally and organisers expect the event to be a hit with spectators at home, as well as with teams, team personnel and international sporting media. The 1978 rowing world championships were held at Lake Karapiro, and are widely regarded` as one of the best in the history of the sport.
Work is also now underway at Lake Karapiro on vital infrastructure required before the championships begin.

Junior Men’s Pair (JM2-) Vasileios Ntalamagkas, 17, and Apostolos Lampridis, 16, of Greece are racing for the first time on the junior national team. After winning their semifinal they were looking confident for today’s final. And confident they were. Ntalamagkas and Lampridis jumped off the line in first taking a slight edge on the rest of the field. The remaining five boats meanwhile were all on top of one another. Germany had a very slight edge over Slovenia, while Australia and the United States were neck-and-neck with France also in the picture.
Going through the middle of the race the United States had closed on the Greeks with France and Slovenia slipping back off the pace. Then Germany (Frederik Prigge and Lukas Oberhausen) and Australia began to move. Of these six boats Germany is the only boat that was in the Final last year and they wanted to show what they had. Australia overtook Germany briefly, but Germany would fight back.
At the line Ntalamagkas and Lampridis become junior World Champions, Prigge and Oberhausen take silver by passing Australia’s Ryan Edwards and Matthew Dignan two strokes before the line. The Greeks came prepared for the medal ceremony. Taking a flag out of their boat, they carried it to the podium.
