This year’s World Rowing Coaches Conference has a host of top coaches speaking and its theme will be “the four-year Beijing Olympic cycle in review.” Paris, France, is the location and 6 November is the starting date.

Three very successful Olympic gold medal coaches are heading the bill. Aleksander Wojciechowski, coach of the Polish men’s quad will speak along with Richard Tonks who coached New Zealand’s Evers-Swindell twins to consecutive Olympic champion titles. Also Australia’s Chris O’Brien, the coach behind the Olympic champion men’s pair, Drew Ginn and Duncan Free.

O’Brien, Tonks and Wojciechowski will talk about the four years leading up to the Beijing Olympics. Amongst other things, they will cover the ups and downs along the way, their training programmes, periodisation and competition.

There will also be a review of coaching tools by FISA’s new competitive commission member, Henk-Jan Zwolle. The brothers behind the Concept2 rowing machine and oars, Peter and Dick Dreissigacker will review the developments in oar design. Conference organiser, FISA council member John Boultbee commented that now the Olympics are over, people are much more prepared to share information.

The conference starts on 6 November and runs though to Saturday 8 November with Sunday 9 November left open for sightseeing.
