8. Comments on this year’s FISA events
The success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games regatta was for all to see. The FISA Executive Committee voted to present the FISA Medal of Honour to the Venue Manager Li Yousheng, the Competition Manager Chen Chunxin and to a volunteer, on behalf of all the volunteers in Shunyi. This marked rowing’s great appreciation for all the efforts made by the host country and the Shunyi District to construct the beautiful regatta course and operate the regatta to such a high standard.
The 2008 World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships were also very successful on the waters at Ottensheim. Excellent racing took place the entire week in good rowing conditions. FISA honoured the President of the Organising Committee Gerhard Wildmoser and the director of the OC Horst Anselm with the FISA Medal of Honour.
The 2008 World Rowing Under 23 regatta was very successful under the leadership of the Mayor of Brandenburg Mrs. Dietlind Tiemann and the President of the Organising Committee Hartmut Duif. The 2008 World Rowing Masters Regatta was also very successfully hosted in Trakai, Lithuania under the leadership of Arturas Jukna. It was conducted in near perfect conditions.
