Και καλούς απογόνους

Georgina Evers-Swindell stole the nation's heart with her stellar rowing feats, now the double Olympic gold medallist has given hers away, marrying Sam Earl in an intimate ceremony.

Wearing an elegant white gown, the 30-year-old celebrated her marriage vows in front of about 100 friends and family at a small church in Pukehou, 30km south of Hastings yesterday.

Georgina looked happy and relaxed as she left the church.

The guests, including twin sister Caroline and fellow rower Nathan Twaddle, who described the day as "wonderful", later gathered for a reception held at Georgina's parents' rural home.

The marriage comes three months after the twins announced they were retiring from competitive rowing following their gold medal win in the double sculls at the Beijing Olympics.

The Sunday Star-Times understands the bride has an exclusive deal with the Australian Women's Weekly.

Rowing's golden twins have kept a relatively low profile since their retirement but their sporting achievements are still being recognised.

The pair won the Lonsdale Cup, awarded annually by the New Zealand Olympic Committee for an outstanding contribution to an Olympic or Commonwealth sport.

They are also finalists in the team category for the 2008 Halberg Sport Awards.

But the next step for Georgina could be starting a family.

In an interview last year, Evers-Swindell said she and Earl had been enjoying spending time with their nieces and nephews.

"They're very cute! I think we'll just enjoy our wedding first, and perhaps consider a family after that."
