Time trials to be tested at Munich World Cup

The Samsung World Rowing Cup in Munich, Germany, scheduled to take place at the end of this week, will be used to test the time trial race format.FISA circular number two for 2011 stated: The Council has decided that a test of time trials is needed for rowers and organisers in preparation for possible contingency scenarios at the Olympic Regatta next year in London. The heats for all events at the first stage of the 2011 Samsung World Rowing Cup in Munich will be run as time trials in the following manner:
Events with 12 or fewer entries:
Round 1 - Time Trials
Round 2 – Heats (seeded based on the results of the TT)
Round 3 – Reps
Round 4 – Finals
Events with 13 or more entries:
Round 1 - Time Trials
Round 2 – Reps
Round 3 – Semis
Round 4 – Finals
Two different scenarios will be tested: some events will use the ‘Fixed Start’ and depart from the starting pontoon while others will use flying starts from the 100m mark. Please refer to “Bye-Law to Rule 65 – Time Trials” for details on Time Trials.
In addition to the above, please note the following:
- Events with six or fewer entries will only have preliminary races and final races on six lanes.
- Adaptive rowing events will have the usual starting process with heats raced from the start using six lanes.
The following first round races will be started from fixed starting positions:

The Samsung World Rowing Cup I runs from 27 to 29 May and is the first World Cup of three for the 2011 series. The second World Cup will be in Hamburg, Germany from 17 to 19 June
