In an effort to expand the security in London during the upcoming Olympics, Scotland Yard will be swearing in the rowing spares from each national federation as Special Constables- or Bobbies. The goal of this directive is to provide friendly bouncers for the event in hopes of preventing potential "incidents."

"We believe that since the spares already know most of the other competitors, they will be better equipped to diffuse any sticky situations that may arise at the soirée," said Chief Inspector Alistaire Gadget.

The "Spare Bobbies", as they had been called, will be issued all of the standard Bobby equipment including the distinctive Bobby Hat (complete with Olympic Rings logo stamped on it) which they will be able to keep after the event. The winners of the Spare Pairs race will be officially sworn in as London Yard Sergeants and be put in charge of the multination Spare Bobbie Brigade.

When reached for comment on the development, Conlin McCabe of the Canadian's mens eight said, "Yeah, I don't think that's going to work!"
