World Rowing is calling for nominations for the 2010 Thomas Keller Medal.All nominations must be submitted via the online form by 9 March 2010.
The Medal is the most prestigious honour in international rowing and awards an outstanding rowing career.
Nominations must be submitted taking into consideration the five factors below:
1. Success at the international level, e.g. medal count taking level of competition into account;
2. “Type” of career e.g. overcoming obstacles, shortcomings;
3. Technical mastery of the sport e.g. success in different boat types as well as sculling and sweep rowing;
4. Sportsmanship e.g. respect for others, attitude, character, “smiling win or lose”;
5. “Legendary” aspect e.g. how the rower is perceived by the rowing world and the world outside rowing.
The medal may be awarded to an athlete within the five years following retirement.
The Medal winner shall be defined by the Thomas Keller Medal committee and shall be announced in June. The medal shall be presented to the recipient during the Final stage of the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland from 9-11 July 2010.
Past winners include Alf Hansen of Norway, the three Abbagnale brothers from Italy, Britain’s Sir Steve Redgrave, and more recently Elisabeta Lipa from Romania and Germany’s Kathrin Boron.
