Αποτελέσματα Π.Κ.Κ. Μονάχου Ημέρα 2η: Συνεχής ενημέρωση

Ξεκίνημα με την Αλεξάνδρα Τσιάβου, η οποία πέρασε με άνεση στον απογευματινό τελικό του σκιφ γυναικών ελ.β. (17:36).

Οι Αγγελόπουλος και Τζανίνης πήραν την πρώτη θέση στον τελικό D και 19η στην τελική κατάταξη, του διπλού σκιφ ανδρών.

Δεύτεροι στον τελικό D του διπλού ελ.β. οι Μαγδανής, Γιάνναρος, και 20οι στην τελική κατάταξη.

FISA, the World Rowing Federation (“World Rowing”) and WWF have announced their strategic alliance for the promotion of Clean Water.
FISA, the World Rowing Federation (“World Rowing”) and WWF have announced their strategic alliance for the promotion of Clean Water.

The two organisations have agreed to use this alliance to promote Clean Water and to educate rowers and those who follow the sport, about its importance to the global environment. Efforts will be made to establish new best practices in sustainable sports event management and to make environmental impact a more significant criterion in the event-bidding process, particularly in respect of the measures organising committees will take to ensure that rowing events do not have a negative impact on the water courses.

The partnership is an important new alliance for WWF which engages in strategic and innovative partnerships in order to help organisations reduce their ecological footprint and make a positive contribution to the environment. By working collaboratively with FISA on Clean Water, WWF will be addressing one of its main priorities – that of protecting freshwater ecosystems.

Time trial test racing continued at the Samsung World Rowing Cup in Munich, Germany, but with a twist. This round of racing saw rowers using a floating start, time trial scenario. Each boat would line up, one at a time, in lane 7 and start to row towards the 100m mark. With 20m to go before the 100m mark, the starter would call ‘attention, go’. The idea was for crews to be at full speed when the clock would start at the 100m mark. This meant that the race was essentially reduced to a 1900m race.
All of the following races were conducted as floating starts in time trial format.
The weather remained cold with most athletes choosing to bundle up with an extra racing layer, often including long sleeves and leggings. Rain came and went throughout the races, with the water remaining flat.
Lightweight Women’s Double Sculls (LW2x) – time trials
A full field of 21 boats were divided into four ‘heats’ and it was up to each crew to earn the fastest time in each ‘heat’ if they wanted a direct path to the semi-finals. All other boats had to return for a repechage giving them a second chance to advance to the semi-finals.
‘Heat’ one had Anne Thomsen and Juliane Rasmussen of Denmark make the most of the flying start and they crossed the line with the fastest time, nearly six seconds ahead of Italy in second. This is the first international race for the Rasmussen – Thomsen combination and it looks to be a boat to watch. Denmark qualify for the semi-final.
Last year Great Britain’s Hester Goodsell and Sophie Hosking started off the season in winning form but ended up finishing fifth at the World Rowing Championships. This year looks good for Goodsell and Hosking as they not only recorded a win in ‘heat’ two but also qualify with the fastest time overall. Taking just 6.50 to cover the 1900m looks promising for the duo. They go directly to the semi-final.
But hot on Goodsell and Hosking’s tail will be their team mates, Kathryn Twyman and Andrea Dennis.  Twyman and Dennis raced in ‘heat’ three and their time was just a couple of seconds slower than their compatriots. This new British duo held off some solid competition from Belgium and the Netherlands to finish in the fastest time and earn a spot in the semi-final.

Time trials. The two buzz words circulating around the rowing course of the Samsung World Rowing Cup in Munich, Germany. The International Rowing federation, FISA, is testing the time trial racing format as a potential contingency plan in times of difficult weather conditions.

The look from the 1972 Olympic grandstand at the Munich course was one of a head race; one boat at a time coming down the course. The following races trialled starting from a fixed start on the 2000m course. The boats then left at 30 second intervals alternating between lane five and six. The finishing times were often quick as the time trial concept meant that crews had to race hard until the end to get a good time to qualify rather than in a normal six-boat-heat situation when the leading boat can potentially do just enough to stay in front or qualify for the next round.

A cold, wintery day greeted the athletes today with rain starting and stopping throughout the morning, but the water was flat with barely a breath of wind.

Lightweight Women’s Single Sculls (LW1x) – time trial
The time triallists were divided into three groups with the top two crews to lead being seeded into this position indicating that they would be the crews to beat. The boats that had the first and second fastest times would go directly to the semi-finals with the rest returning for a repechage. The first ‘heat’ had top seed Pamela Weisshaupt of Switzerland showing her continued talent despite missing the World Rowing Championships last year.  Weisshaupt finished in a time of 8 minutes flat easily ahead of the rest of the crews. Eri Wakai of Japan came through in second to also qualify.
